Carrasco International Airport (MVD)
Location: The airport is situated 18 miles (30km) to the east of central Montevideo in the suburb of Carrasco. Time: GMT –3. Contacts: Tel: +598 (0)2 906 463. Transfer to the city: Buses and metered taxis run by various companies are available for the trip into Montevideo, which takes around half an hour. Car rental: Avis, Europcar and Hertz car rental companies are represented at the airport. Facilities: The airport, which is privately run, is currently undergoing a major refurbishment with the building of a new terminal, due to be completed in 2009. The existing terminal provides adequate facilities, including a duty free shop, a few coffee bars and cafeterias, and a currency exchange agency (cambio). Departure tax: An ‘airport improvement fee’ of US$12 is payable on international departures.
